What is the Grainmonster?
The Grainmonster is a an all in one smart device for home malting. The malted grains such as barley, rice, millet and others can be used to craft beverages. Grainmonster can also be used to grow microgreens or germinate seeds before planting.
What is the Grainmonster controller?
If you have your own malting system or want to build your own, you can connect it to the Grainmonster control unit, to gain smart control over temperature control, steep and aeration cycles (water inlet and outlet) and more.
Where can I get one?
The Grainmonster is still in development. Please consider funding us so you can get yours sooner.
How much will it cost?
Being meant for homebrewers, it will be an affordable solution in a price range comperable to all in one brewing devices. A cheaper open source solution will also be available for DIYers.
What is the current status of the development of this product?
Grainmonster is currently in the prototyping phase. After a successful funding campaign, it will take approx. one year until availability.
Why is crowdfunding necessary?
Grainmonster is currently a self-funded full time project with the help of several people. We need your help to make our prototype ready for manufactring, make sure it complies with codes, and add more functions.
How much grain is it able to malt, what is the capacity?
The prototype has a 27 liter volume that can malt 15 kilogramms of grain. Depending on the recipe that can be enough for 50-75 liters of beer.
What grains can it be used for?
It can be used for any kind of grain including, Barley, Buckwheat, Corn, Millet, Rice, Rye, Wheat, Quinoa and more. Seeds of other plants to grow microgreens too. Please get in touch if you want to find out about your specific needs.
How long does it take to malt one batch?
The malting process takes 4-7 days with most grains, from start to end.
What will be the key features?
Automated steeping and aeration, straining, rinsing, temperature control, humidity control, water absorption monitoring, airflow and air temperature control for kilning, digital smart connectivity, and an awesome all in one container for roasting in oven.
What will be the smart functionalities?
You can connect to your computer through wifi to download, upload and share 'recipes', which can be automatically executed on the Grainmonster. You can monitor and control the process from any device.
How much electricity does it use?
The main container is well insulated so the heating or cooling will not ramp up your electricity consumption. Alltogether less then a few kWhs a day, which makes the process very affordable.
How much space does the all in one unit take?
It is the size of a mid size cooler box, roughly 60(width)/35(depth)/45(height) centimeters or 25/13/17 inches.
