Grainmonster's Story
I am a homebrewer and a homesteader. I malt and also grow specialty grains. I brew gluten free beer. In the gluten free brewing community we use a wide variety of grains, not all of them are commercially available as malted products and the availability is very geography dependent. Unlike for traditional barley beer brewers, malting at home is an inevitable step for many of us GF brewers. Having done the germinate-kiln-roast process with many different grains many times, the necessity arose for a simple solution to ease the process, so I can focus on brewing, while improving the quality of my home made malts. This is how the idea of the grainmonster came about. The gluten-free homebrewing scene is a very enthusiastic and inspiring scene, where a lot of pioneering knowledge comes from the community. One has to dive deep in literature to gather useful information for home malting, especially when it comes to alternative grains. We learn and develop together with barley maltsers. A smart tool that helps the users to develop precise methods and share them too will ultimately benefit the community.
Just like brewing, malting requires sound knowledge and experience. The smart features of Grainmother will enable the home-maltster to make the most of their grains. It can upload and receive data like soaking and aerating temperatures and schedules, kilning regimes. Our home malts can be made with ease and little work, while bringing the best possible quality. Our goal at the end of the day is to make great beverages, and it shall start with the grain. Sharing knowledge through the community is the key to make those grains come alive.
